Cobham validates Ellipse-D compatibility in 2020 tests with SBG Systems

Cobham required a solution to ensure its compact Aviator UAV 200 satcom terminal could maintain a stable satellite link for its unmanned aerial vehicles. The challenge was to provide the terminal with highly accurate and reliable real-time navigation data, including heading and position, for precise antenna pointing, which is critical for beyond line-of-sight communication. SBG Systems' Ellipse-D inertial navigation system was selected for this integration.

SBG Systems implemented its Ellipse-D INS to supply the necessary roll, pitch, yaw, heading, and position data to Cobham's terminal. The solution was rigorously tested and validated by the CNES CESARS center, which confirmed full compatibility between the systems. The result was a stable satellite connection maintained even during vehicle motion, enabling optimal data transmission and opening new opportunities for enhanced UAV operations.
