Case Study: AGH Solar Boat achieves autonomous podium success with SBG Systems Ellipse-D

A SBG Systems Case Study

AGH Solar Boat takes 2nd place in Monaco AI Class with SBG Systems

AGH Solar Boat, a student-led engineering team from AGH University of Kraków, needed a highly reliable and accurate navigation sensor for their solar-powered boat to compete autonomously in the demanding AI Class of the Monaco Energy Boat Challenge. Their challenge was to find a solution from a vendor like SBG Systems that could deliver precise, real-time positioning and orientation data with minimal latency to enable their vessel to perform complex maneuvers without any human intervention.

SBG Systems provided their Ellipse-D inertial navigation system, which was seamlessly integrated into the boat's ROS2-based autonomous control system. The solution delivered the required high-performance data with low latency, forming the reliable navigation backbone that was crucial for the boat's operation. This resulted in AGH Solar Boat achieving second place in the 2025 competition, proving the Ellipse-D is suited for demanding autonomous marine applications and validating the team's sustainable, innovative approach.
