CO-OP Financial Services, which supports more than 3,500 credit unions, faced a problem with newly issued debit cards that cardholders weren’t using—creating lost interchange revenue and disengaged members. Credit unions needed a cost-effective, ROI-positive way to activate and retain these cardholders without taxing in-house resources.
CO-OP partnered with Saylent and used the Revelation platform to target 4,805 inactive cardholders across 16 institutions with a “5 for 10” postcard incentive (five debit purchases in March for a $10 iTunes card). The campaign drove measurable engagement: 6.64% qualified for the reward, qualifiers averaged 22.12 transactions per month over six months, non-qualifier card average spend rose by $74.50/month, and total spend on targeted cards reached $2.89M over six months, generating sustained interchange revenue and member activity.
