Case Study: Worcester Polytechnic Institute achieves cloud-first, centralized identity management and automated secure access with Saviynt

A Saviynt Case Study

Preview of the Worcester Polytechnic Institute Case Study

How Worcester Polytechnic Institute replaced decades of code, centralized thousands of identities, and empowered modern, agile, and secure access control

Worcester Polytechnic Institute, a technology-focused university with over 7,300 students and 18 academic departments, faced a legacy on‑prem identity system built from millions of lines of custom code that required manual provisioning, inconsistent data entry, and slow access changes. Rather than rebuild that patchwork, WPI chose Saviynt and deployed Saviynt IGA (Saviynt Identity Governance and Administration) to centralize identity management and prepare the campus for a cloud-first future.

Saviynt migrated and reconciled more than 40,000 records during a single winter break, consolidating students, staff, and alumni into one authoritative repository and integrating with systems of record for course enrollment, entitlements, role changes, and building access. The Saviynt deployment automated status-driven access changes (immediate revocation on separation, manager-controlled extensions), reduced manual processes, improved response times, and delivered scalable analytics and reporting—positioning WPI to extend lifecycle management into Microsoft 365 and Zoom in phase two.
