Achieving One Identity for Life With Saviynt IGA

The University of Canterbury, a leading New Zealand university, needed to modernize identity lifecycle management as part of a wider digital transformation. With more than 18,000 students, 3,300 staff and 1,500 visitors and frequent role changes (students who are also staff, research assistants, alumni, etc.), the university’s homegrown, script-based IAM was slow and inflexible. To achieve its goal of “one identity for life” it selected Saviynt and its IGA solution to provide centralized visibility and governance across a complex hybrid environment.

Saviynt implemented a centralized IGA platform integrated with Microsoft Azure AD, Oracle PeopleSoft and the university’s student system, automating provisioning, deprovisioning and role-based controls. As a result, onboarding and provisioning went from an overnight process to about 20 minutes, diverse account types across legacy and cloud infrastructure were secured, visibility gaps were eliminated, administration was streamlined, and the university met new New Zealand data-privacy mandates. Saviynt’s direct support and ambassador program have aided the phased rollout as the university moves toward full RBAC, SSO and MFA.
