A Savi Technology Case Study
Ghana is a major road transit corridor for landlocked neighbors such as Burkina Faso, Niger and Mali, but rising cross-border trade led to increasing incidents of cargo being lost or diverted into the local economy, depriving the state of revenue. SGS and its GCNet partners needed a reliable, cost‑effective traceability service to replace an expensive and ineffective escort‑officer model and protect customs revenues.
GCNet and SGS implemented the Savi Mobile Tracking System — GPS-equipped devices on trucks tied to a Transit Control Center and the GCNet ePortal — enabling real‑time tracking, alerts and communication with mobile teams and haulers. The system now monitors 2,500–3,200 trucks per month across Ghana’s corridors, is being expanded for cross‑border coverage with Burkina Faso, and helped SGS earn a World Customs Organization Certificate of Merit.
