Bell Helicopter, a Textron company and a leader in vertical takeoff and landing aircraft with about 13,000 aircraft in over 140 countries, faced a U.S. DoD mandate requiring all suppliers to mark parts over $5,000 with a unique serial number (UID) and barcode and to maintain a compliant data repository capable of producing UID reports on demand.

Bell engaged Savi to deploy a phased, web-based UID generation, management and storage solution integrated with Bell’s laser-marking equipment. The Savi repository met DFARS and military standards, enabled automated permanent part marking, and was rapidly expanded across Bell and two other Textron divisions, resulting in a secure, shared repository of over 42,000 UIDs and full compliance with DoD requirements.
