The British Red Cross centers women seeking asylum with Savanta, backed by 2/3 of UK adults

The British Red Cross, the UK's largest independent provider of services for refugees and asylum seekers, faced the challenge that the government's New Plan for Immigration lacked gender-specific provisions and had not consulted the lived experiences of women. Commissioning the research firm Savanta, their goal was to center the voices of women navigating the asylum system to ensure their needs would be met in future policy changes.

Savanta's solution involved co-moderating in-depth interviews and workshops with women who had first-hand experience of the asylum system, effectively partnering with them from the design stage through to fieldwork moderation. This approach culminated in a report featuring 17 key policy recommendations, including the crucial call for these women to be involved in policy development. Public polling conducted by Savanta also revealed that two-thirds of UK adults agree it is the government’s duty to ensure these voices are heard.
