A Savanta Case Study
The Internet Watch Foundation (IWF), a charity working to eliminate online child sexual abuse material, sought to identify appropriate language to describe "self-generated" abuse content to improve public understanding and reporting. They partnered with the vendor Savanta, who conducted a language testing research study to address this challenge.
Savanta implemented a deliberative research approach using mini focus groups with parents and carers. This solution identified misconceptions in existing terminology and helped generate a new, preferred term through co-creation. The research provided valuable insights for the IWF to refine its public-facing content and contributed directly to discussions within a key government and law enforcement working group, enhancing broader societal understanding of the issue.
