Emergency Preparedness at the American Philosophical Society

The American Philosophical Society (APS), a Philadelphia-based learned society that houses rare antiquities and research materials, needed a fail-safe way to manage emergency evacuations and account for every person on-site — employees, guests and researchers — after heightened security concerns following 2001. APS selected Savance EIOBoard and its Emergency Mustering, Staff Tracking and Visitor Management solutions to provide real-time, low-maintenance occupancy tracking.

Savance EIOBoard deployed software with touch-screen kiosks, prox card readers and a tablet for remote roll call, then customized guest check-in/export and an offline tablet mode to work if the network goes down. Those changes produced measurable results — APS’s first fire drill after implementation was 100% accurate — and delivered faster, reliable mustering, improved employee tracking, better emergency preparedness and increased peace of mind.
