When Mobile Surpassed 50% of traffic Bleacher Report Turned to Sauce Labs

Bleacher Report, a leading sports publisher with more than 16 million monthly unique users, saw mobile traffic surpass 50% in late 2012 and discovered their manual native-app testing couldn’t keep up with frequent updates and Android fragmentation. While they used Selenium for web tests, bugs continued to reach production because they lacked an automated mobile testing solution.

In June 2013 they adopted Appium on Sauce Labs, allowing them to reuse existing frameworks and commands and run tests in parallel. The team now runs 12 native and 7 mobile-web tests (completing the suite in about 2 minutes across iPhone, iPad and in-app scenarios), which reduced regressions, accelerated deployments, freed QA to build internal tools, and helped maintain a less stressful, more productive culture.
