Case Study: OpenDNS achieves automated cross-browser testing and cuts test time from 1 hour to 20 minutes with Sauce Labs

OpenDNS automates web app testing across six browsers using Sauce Labs

OpenDNS, a network security provider that protects roughly 2% of active Internet users, needed a way to scale and speed web‑application testing without dedicating engineers to manage an internal Selenium test farm. As their Selenium test suites grew, builds slowed and concurrency became a bottleneck, so the team sought an automated, cross‑browser testing solution.

OpenDNS adopted Sauce Labs’ cloud-based Selenium platform, letting 15 developers run PHP and Python tests via Jenkins/GitHub on 100 VMs across six browsers. They execute a 250-test suite per build about seven times daily (1,750 tests) plus ~2,500 tests from pull requests, and cut test runtime per build from ~1 hour to ~20 minutes while eliminating in‑house test‑infrastructure management.
