Krispy Kreme streamlines label production in 6 weeks with Sato

Krispy Kreme, a global doughnut maker, needed a labeling solution to quickly and accurately apply round, variable-information labels onto different-sized boxes moving at high speed on their bakery conveyor lines. Their previous hand-application method was labor-intensive and lacked consistency. They partnered with vendor Sato, whose M8459Se Series Print Engine was integrated into a custom portable printer/applicator unit built by Action Packaging Systems.

The solution implemented by Sato was a durable, semiautomatic, and portable print-and-apply system. This custom unit streamlined production by providing consistent label placement, speeding up the line, and improving the brand's presentation. The results were highly positive, with approximately 30 units deployed. Krispy Kreme reported the system was very durable, simple to use, and provided a good return on investment, achieving their goals for efficiency and a standardized product look.
