Copeland Corporation reduces packing errors to zero with Sato

Copeland Corporation, a global manufacturer of compressors, faced the challenge of eliminating packing errors for its high-volume production lines. Mistakes in labeling and shipping identical-looking compressors could result in customer fines. To achieve their goal of zero errors without slowing down the packers, they partnered with vendor SATO and systems integrator The SMS Group to find a technology-based solution.

The solution implemented by SATO and The SMS Group was a two-phase packing verification system. It used SATO M84Pro thermal printers to create on-demand labels for each compressor, which were then scanned by operators to verify accuracy against customer orders in real-time. This system, driven by SATO's reliable printing technology, completely eliminated packing errors at the Hartselle plant, cutting the return rate to zero. The success led Copeland to roll out the SATO-powered solution across nearly all of its global facilities.
