The BBC worked with Sassafras Software after receiving a mandate from its Board of Governors to cut operating costs and improve software license compliance across 27,000 computers in the UK. The BBC evaluated several software auditing products and selected Sassafras Software’s KeyServer because it offered enterprise-level real-time compliance, strong integration options, MSI support, and low network traffic.

Sassafras Software implemented KeyServer to audit software usage, manage licensing, prevent unauthorized program use, and integrate with tools such as Altiris and Active Directory. The BBC identified large amounts of unused, under-licensed, and over-licensed software, reduced software asset management from dozens of people to two full-time positions, and improved purchasing control and vendor negotiations.
