A SAS Case Study
SunTrust, led by Sterling Green, VP of Business Intelligence, was tasked with building a SAS Center of Excellence and designing a next‑generation analytics platform. The bank faced outdated hardware, siloed data, three disparate SAS platforms (PC, mainframe and aging HP‑UX), poor workload distribution with some servers maxed out and others idle, and limited scalability that prevented new groups from joining the SAS environment.
SunTrust implemented SAS Grid Computing along with SAS Enterprise Miner, Enterprise Guide and Enterprise BI, centralized administration and a clustered file system to enable workload management, parallel processing and a single version of the truth. Early results include much faster run times (one job fell from ~10 hours to ~2 hours), higher overall throughput, prioritized processing for critical jobs, reduced IT maintenance and positive user feedback as the production grid rollout progresses.
