Case Study: SunTrust achieves faster, more productive analytics with SAS Grid Computing from SAS

A SAS Case Study

Preview of the SunTrust Case Study

With SAS® Grid Computing, SunTrust analysts spend less time moving data

SunTrust’s Client Information Group, led by Dudley Gwaltney, supports predictive modeling for upsell, cross‑sell, attrition and other marketing activities but was constrained by an inefficient, siloed server setup. Analysts often had to move large (up to 10 GB) files between locations, cope with uneven capacity allocation and wait hours for long-running jobs—delaying answers to critical business decisions.

SunTrust moved to a SAS 9.3 analytics platform enabled by SAS Grid Computing (with SAS Enterprise Guide and Enterprise Miner), providing centralized data, cluster file sharing, parallel processing and prioritized workload management. The change eliminated duplicate file transfers, improved availability and cut processing times (example: typical runs from 7–8 hours toward 3–4 hours, and some tasks from several hours to about one), giving analysts more time for deeper, faster analytics.
