A SAS Case Study
Česká pojišťovna (ČP), the Czech Republic’s largest insurer with over 9 million active policies and a legacy of client records going back to punch cards, faced severe data-quality issues in an aging life-insurance system holding millions of policies and claims. Inconsistencies and duplications—missing diacritics, invalid or gender-mismatched national IDs, combined name/title fields, obsolete postcodes, heavy abbreviations and misplaced remarks—caused mismatches between policies and claims, incorrect premiums and blocked migration to a modern platform.
ČP deployed SAS Data Quality to cleanse and deduplicate its primary client database. Over a four-month project more than 20 million historical records across policies and claims were processed, achieving better than a 90% success rate for cleansed or verified records, resulting in more consistent, error-reduced data and enabling reliable downstream systems and future system migration.
