A SAS Case Study
Town of Cary, North Carolina, needed a faster, easier way to use data for everyday decision making after a dip in revenue threatened its $350 million capital budget. Officials had to quickly identify unspent funds in active projects and get reliable, timely information to support budgeting and operational decisions.
By implementing SAS Analytics and a self-service reporting portal, Cary was able to reallocate funds to avoid $3.5 million in new debt and replace $6.9 million of unissued debt with cash. The portal lets departments run their own reports—speeding construction and crime reporting, improving police situational awareness and reducing crime in targeted communities, cutting report turnaround from days to minutes, and freeing analysts to do deeper analysis while improving budgeting, customer service and operational efficiency.
