A SAS Case Study
Sigorta Bilgi ve Gözetim Merkezi (SBM), Turkey’s insurance information and monitoring center, faced a growing problem of organized insurance-claims fraud that routine rule‑based systems could not uncover. With millions of policies and roughly 2.5 million annual damage claims, SBM needed a way to detect complex, cross‑company fraud networks and reduce false positives that delay legitimate claims.
SBM implemented SAS Detection and Investigation for Insurance to aggregate data across insurers, model relationships, and apply near‑real‑time risk scoring, sharing scores with companies and the national anti‑fraud bureau (SISEB). The solution produced a fivefold improvement in detection and uncovered 259 million TL (about US$86 million) in potential fraud within nine months, enabling earlier intervention before payouts and significant cost savings that can flow through to lower premiums.
