Providing free access to valuable census data

The Statistics Centre–Abu Dhabi (SCAD) is the Emirate’s official statistics authority, responsible for collecting and publishing social, demographic and economic data. For its 2011 population and housing census SCAD needed an easy, registration-free way to share large volumes of data with expert and non‑expert users, including spatial mapping, community-level storytelling, simple data export, layered interfaces for different skill levels, and rigorous confidentiality protections.

SCAD implemented SAS Enterprise BI Server to power interactive thematic mapping and a drag‑and‑drop table builder (English/Arabic), making census data freely accessible online without training or login. The tools enabled spatial insights and custom community tables for better decision-making across government and business, increased efficiency and re‑use for other datasets, and helped SCAD earn the SAS Excellence in Government Award.
