Case Study: University of New Hampshire achieves interactive, actionable healthcare data insights with SAS Visual Analytics (SAS)

A SAS Case Study

Preview of the University of New Hampshire Case Study

New Hampshire health organizations can more easily use health data to deliver higher-quality, lower-cost care

The UNH-based Institute for Health Policy and Practice (IHPP) runs the Accountable Care Project, a New Hampshire program that links the state’s all‑payer claims database and electronic medical records to help hospitals and physician groups improve care while containing costs. Participating organizations struggled with static, hard‑to‑use reports and needed easy access to data they could manipulate to explore cost, quality and utilization measures themselves.

IHPP implemented SAS Visual Analytics to replace the old 700‑page PDF reports with a point‑and‑click, customizable reporting interface. Users can instantly generate visual reports to benchmark performance, track clinical measures (for example, diabetic retinal exams and mammogram follow‑up) and compare costs across providers—fueling better decision making, targeted improvement efforts and policy conversations.
