A SAS Case Study
The Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks, charged with conserving the state's natural resources, faced a fragmented data environment—about nine databases that couldn’t easily communicate—making it slow and laborious to produce roughly 200 annual progress and management reports, understand angler and hunter customer behavior, grow license revenue, and accurately calculate federal-aid eligibilities.
By implementing SAS® Business Analytics and working with Solution Design Team for data integration and report design, the department automated reporting, cleaned and mined license data, and targeted marketing and product changes (multiyear and youth licenses, early-season discounts). The effort cut report time by two‑thirds, added about 3,000 licensed anglers, generated $3.8 million in increased economic activity over three years, and raised federal aid certifications by 10%.
