Case Study: Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corporation (SMIC) achieves improved quality management and reduced device losses with SAS

A SAS Case Study

Preview of the SMIC Case Study

Improving quality management and minimizing losses

Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corporation (SMIC) is one of mainland China’s largest and most advanced semiconductor OEMs, with manufacturing and testing sites across Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Chengdu. Rapid business growth generated massive volumes of device, performance and quality data, overwhelming SMIC’s legacy analysis and reporting tools and creating a need for a more scalable, responsive analytics platform.

SMIC implemented SAS® Enterprise BI Server and SAS® Enterprise Guide and built an iEMS (Intelligent Equipment Monitoring System) on that framework to automate data extraction, analysis and alerting. The new solution made reports available in minutes instead of hours, enabled engineers and analysts to run complex analyses without heavy programming, improved management efficiency, and reduced losses by detecting device exceptions earlier and minimizing the number of affected products.
