A SAS Case Study
The Office of Policy Development and Research at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development needed a faster, more rigorous way to analyze outcomes for millions of assisted-housing beneficiaries and to inform policy on education, health and employment. Researchers were responsible for reporting program performance and assessing whether public housing, Housing Choice Vouchers and subsidized loans were actually improving quality of life, but existing processes were slow and limited in analytical depth.
By deploying SAS Business Analytics to process the American Housing Survey and link data across agencies, HUD moved to a web-enabled reporting platform that supports everything from simple queries to complex statistical modeling. The change cut turnaround times from weeks to days (or hours), improved insight into the state of assisted housing, and gave policymakers and researchers the tools to monitor performance goals and better target programs to improve health, education and employment outcomes.
