A SAS Case Study
SAS provided Lubbock Independent School District with a way to address a common challenge: teachers needed actionable insight to craft lessons that produced growth for all students, not just higher scorers. Raw test scores and proficiency rates hid which students were making real progress, leaving educators unsure how to adjust instruction; value-added analysis revealed gaps and prompted teachers like Michelle Watts and Robin Fulbright to reflect and change strategies.
The district implemented SAS® EVAAS® for K–12, which compares each student's performance to their own prior results over multiple years. Armed with that value-added data, teachers targeted instruction (after‑school tutoring, altered delivery, focused small groups), while administrators identified successful practices, reshaped evaluations toward growth, and directed professional development. The result was better teacher reflection and morale, lower turnover at schools like Bozeman Elementary, measurable student growth and district recognitions, and evidence-based insights into what works in the classroom.
