A SAS Case Study
ERGO Insurance Belgium, a midsize life-insurance subsidiary of the ERGO Group, faced growing regulatory pressure to detect money laundering and terrorist financing across its contracts and frequent policy changes. With about 350 employees and an 800,000‑customer database, the company needed to screen every contract and beneficiary against extensive blacklists (such as Dow Jones) without overwhelming staff or missing matches caused by name variants and misspellings.
ERGO implemented SAS® Anti‑Money Laundering, which uses fuzzy‑logic matching and business rules to automatically verify, validate and document changes while scanning the entire database every 24 hours. The solution sharply reduced false positives to a manageable level, saved time and money daily, and enabled investigators to focus on legitimate threats rather than routine alerts.
