A SAS Case Study
Rutherford County Schools, a rural district in western North Carolina, launched a 1:1 laptop initiative for middle- and high-school students but found that having devices didn’t guarantee effective classroom use. Teachers needed trustworthy, curriculum-aligned interactive resources and practical professional development to integrate digital content into daily lessons.
The district adopted SAS Curriculum Pathways and redesigned professional development around ongoing, teacher-led, curriculum-driven training with on-site facilitators and subject-based PLCs, introducing resources just before teachers needed them. The approach—using features like built-in assessments and the Writing Reviser, expanding use beyond core subjects, and focusing on differentiation—helped more than half of middle- and high-school teachers adopt SAS tools (some daily) and generated about 15,000 log-ins among 2,600 high-school students, producing high-interest, standards-aligned digital assignments in everyday instruction.
