A SAS Case Study
DSM, a global life- and materials-sciences company with extensive manufacturing and product data, needed better control over product, inventory and item information to improve spending reporting and analysis. The company had no enterprise-wide spend categorization (and inconsistent business-unit coding), relied on thousands of users to choose from 27,500 eCl@ss codes manually, and needed a solution that would fix data-quality issues and integrate eCl@ss coding into its SAP SRM environment via SOA.
DSM implemented SAS Data Management to give business users an intuitive way to find and remediate data problems, define business rules, and automatically assign eCl@ss commodity codes using patented matching technology. Integrated with SAP in real time and maintained from an industry-standard code list, the solution delivered consistent, enriched data, supported DSM’s data-governance strategy, and enabled more accurate, reusable spend reporting and analysis.
