A SAS Case Study
Česká pojišťovna, the largest insurance company in the Czech Republic, faced widespread and varied insurance fraud—from staged accidents to false health and life claims—and needed a way to avoid issuing suspicious policies and detect improper claims more reliably than its previous manual, resource-intensive methods.
The company implemented SAS Detection and Investigation for Insurance, combining rules-based screening (nearly 300 rules), predictive models built on a 1,000-variable data mart that score ~100,000 cases daily, and social network analysis to reveal linked fraud rings. This hybrid approach improved investigation efficiency and helped Česká pojišťovna save tens of millions of Czech crowns annually while uncovering about 20 million CZK (≈US$820,000) in fraud each year.
