Clinical data integration: Good for patients, good for doctors

Valence Health, founded to help independent doctors and hospitals gain the benefits of clinical integration without forcing a common IT platform, faced the challenge of collecting and standardizing disparate clinical and claims data to meet FTC clinical-integration requirements, manage risk, and give providers leverage in payer negotiations while improving patient care.

Using SAS Business Analytics, Valence built tools to pull, cleanse, link and analyze data into a virtual RHIO and deliver web-based reports and proactive alerts to clinicians. The system processes daily data for about 10,000 doctors across 4,000 practices against 90 guidelines, cut manual chart work, enabled rate increases of 15–20% (reaching ~130% of Medicare in one region), improved care coordination and positioned providers for accountable-care models.
