A SAS Case Study
Beaufort County Schools in Washington, North Carolina (7,239 students across 13 schools) needed a better way to identify which students required tutoring, which seventh graders were ready for algebra, and which teaching methods actually drove growth. Relying on Excel spreadsheets made it hard to spot true at‑risk students, track progress toward academic milestones, or plan equitable interventions.
Implementing SAS EVAAS for K–12 gave the district a predictive, value‑added system to measure individual student trajectories and teacher impact. The district now identifies at‑risk students early, doubled seventh‑grade algebra enrollment over three years (and added 20 students in eighth‑grade algebra), pinpoints effective teachers and subgroup gaps, and uses objective data to guide interventions, placements and long‑term planning.
