A SAS Case Study
Lillebaelt Hospital’s Department of Orthopedic Surgery at Vejle faced a resource‑intensive audit process that sampled just 1% of patient records and still found errors in 33% of those reviewed, leaving many registrations—such as secondary diagnoses and treatments—undetected and consuming surgeons’ time. The department needed a scalable way to improve coding accuracy and the quality of clinical data used for decision‑making.
The hospital deployed the Clinically Correct Time‑True Registration system using SAS Text Analytics to automatically analyze surgeons’ dictations, register diagnosis and treatment codes, and interpret Danish, Latin and abbreviated terms. With all records checked automatically, staff can more easily find and fix errors, clinicians are freed to spend more time with patients, and the cleaned data creates a stronger foundation for quality improvement, research and wider rollout across departments.
