Swiss energy service provider BKW faced the challenge of modernizing its 16-year-old, heavily customized SAP ERP system, which was resource-intensive and hindered its ability to expand its service business. The finance team at BKW required a new IT environment from vendor SAP that would provide a single source of truth for data, support logistics processes, and deliver real-time information for management.
SAP implemented its SAP S/4HANA solution using a greenfield approach, which included the SAP Fiori user experience for easier interaction. The solution dramatically simplified the company's financial structure, consolidating 60 controlling areas into one and removing thousands of redundant cost centers and account assignment elements. The results provided by SAP include the instant availability of complex invoice documents, much easier data extraction, and a strong technological foundation for future business growth.
