Transforming medical procurement in crisis Ensuring lifesaving supplies through SAP Ariba

Medical Procurement of Ukraine (MPU), a state-owned enterprise under Ukraine’s Ministry of Health, faced a wartime procurement crisis as bombed facilities, broken supply chains, rising costs, and urgent medical needs made it difficult to secure medicines and equipment quickly and transparently. MPU turned to SAP Ariba and SAP Business Network, with SAP Business Technology Platform supporting integration, to modernize procurement and connect with global suppliers.

SAP implemented a digital end-to-end procurement process for MPU in less than three weeks, enabling rapid supplier onboarding, sourcing, and contracting during the war. The results included a 40% reduction in costs on critical medical equipment, a 20% cut in procurement cycle times, supplier growth from 170 to 605, and management of up to €1 billion in transactions, helping deliver 1,000+ ambulances and other lifesaving supplies.
