Case Study: The Shoprite Group achieves a seamless RFID self-checkout experience with SAP

A SAP Case Study

Preview of the The Shoprite Group Case Study

The Shoprite Group - Customer Case Study

The Shoprite Group, Africa’s largest retailer, wanted to expand into clothing with a modern, seamless shopping experience while reducing transaction times, improving stock counts, and boosting conversion. To support its UNIQ Clothing by Checkers concept, the company used SAP as part of a new RFID-enabled self-checkout model, integrated with its existing SAP landscape.

SAP helped The Shoprite Group implement SAP Omnichannel Point-of-Sale by GK alongside Nedap’s RFID solution, creating a cashless, item-level self-checkout experience with real-time inventory visibility. The results included checkout times of about 20–30 seconds, full-store stock counts in 45 minutes instead of 6–8 hours, and an average basket size of 2.41 units versus a 2.2 global benchmark, with daily sales reaching about 9,000 transactions during start-up.
