Streamlining a Quality Management System with SAP Cloud Platform

Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) faced the challenge of streamlining its manual, paper-based supplier change request (SCR) process, a key aspect of its quality management system. To simplify this complex workflow for assessing material recalls and changes, PG&E partnered with vendor SAP. They utilized the SAP Cloud Platform to create a more efficient electronic system.

SAP delivered a solution by building an e-SCR supplier portal on the SAP Cloud Platform, which integrated with PG&E's existing SAP ERP application. This new system automated the routing of requests to approvers and was deployed in under eight weeks. The results included a significantly improved workflow, allowing nine SCRs to be processed in the first month, and it helps maintain a 99.9% success rate for purchasing defect-free materials.
