Redefining a Utility Business Through Data Migration Using SAP Landscape Transformation

Landis+Gyr, a high-tech provider of energy metering solutions, faced the challenge of consolidating its complex and fragmented global SAP ERP application landscape from nine instances down to one per region. This was necessary to simplify operations, harmonize key data like materials and vendors, and create the financial transparency required for its digital transformation. To achieve this, the company partnered with vendor SAP and used the SAP Landscape Transformation software for this major data migration.

The solution implemented by SAP, in collaboration with partner GAMBIT Consulting GmbH, used an object-based transformation approach to consolidate six systems in the first wave without operational downtime. The project was completed in phases over a single weekend for the main migration. As a result, Landis+Gyr gained global financial transparency, streamlined its business processes, and ensured full access to historical data. This successful consolidation has prepared their ERP environment for a future move to SAP S/4HANA.
