A SAP Case Study
Mitsui Coal Holdings (MCH), an investment subsidiary managing a large coal mining portfolio for Mitsui & Co. in Australia, faced challenges due to its outdated finance system. The legacy software resulted in poor data quality, time-consuming processes, and a heavy reliance on spreadsheets, which limited its analytical capabilities and constrained investment analysis. To navigate uncertain market conditions, MCH partnered with vendor SAP to modernize its operations.
SAP, along with implementation partner PwC, deployed SAP S/4HANA and the SAP Business Planning and Consolidation application hosted on AWS. This solution provided a single source of truth, enabling real-time analytics and highly automated processes. The results were significant: finance headcount was reduced by 10%, month-end data processing time dropped from 2 days to just 30 minutes, and finance staff now spend 80% of their time on strategic analysis instead of transactional tasks, leading to smarter investment decisions.
