Optimizing security and compliance through app entities in SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition

Schneider Electric, a global energy management and automation company with more than 150,000 employees, needed to tighten access control for 60,000+ users in SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition. Its challenge was that role-based access tied to business catalogs could expose employees to applications they did not need, increasing security and compliance risks. SAP was the vendor supporting the effort, using SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition and SAP Customer Identity and Access Management concepts.

SAP and Schneider Electric implemented a phased “App as an Entity” approach to restrict business catalog associations, control launchpad customization, and enforce least-privilege access. The result was stronger security, better workflow efficiency for managers and role owners, and improved compliance; Schneider Electric also reported a 50% reduction in resource utilization for validating unwanted applications, making risk control management more efficient.
