A SAP Case Study
MAN Truck & Bus, a leading commercial vehicle manufacturer and subsidiary of Traton SE, needed to split its global SAP ERP Human Capital Management system into two separate landscapes while meeting strict EU data privacy and security requirements. The challenge was to carve out employee data cleanly, keep only the information that had to be retained, and complete the work remotely during COVID-19 with minimal disruption. SAP’s Data Management and Landscape Transformation (DMLT) team supported the project using SAP ERP HCM and SAP Landscape Transformation.
SAP implemented a clone-and-delete system split approach, including detailed testing, repeated sandbox deletions, and a phased project plan to reduce risk. The result was a successful go-live with just 48 hours of downtime, deletion of around 50,000 personnel numbers across 783 tables, and a runtime of less than 12 hours for the required data removal. MAN Truck & Bus also gained a leaner HR architecture, better system performance, and full GDPR-aligned data protection and security compliance.
