Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd, the automotive manufacturer behind passenger vehicles, military vehicles, and digital farming technologies, needed to upgrade its large SAP S/4HANA Private Cloud production environment while avoiding business disruption. Because uptime is critical in the fast-moving automotive sector, the company wanted to reduce the risk and duration of downtime during its major release upgrade.
SAP implemented the Zero Downtime Option (ZDO) of Software Update Manager through SAP Enterprise Cloud Services, working closely with Mahindra & Mahindra teams to upgrade from SAP S/4HANA 2020 to SAP S/4HANA 2023. The result was only 20 minutes of system unavailability for an 18 TB production system, with total business downtime reduced to 20 hours and a major improvement versus the previous 48-hour upgrade window.
