A SAP Case Study
The Canton of Zurich, a major driver of Switzerland’s economy, faced an overwhelming surge in reduced-working-hours compensation applications during the COVID-19 lockdown. Monthly requests jumped from about 10 to more than 10,000, and the authorities needed a faster way to process claims and payments without adding staff. SAP Intelligent Robotic Process Automation, along with SAP Business Technology Platform, was used to help automate the process.
SAP implemented a web-form and software-bot solution that transferred data to the federal accounting system and automated key payment steps. The project went live in just two weeks and enabled the Canton of Zurich to process around 30,000 payments over three months, cutting average handling time from 25 minutes to 30 seconds and reducing workload by 85%, while avoiding manual errors.
