A SAP Case Study
GPA, one of the largest retail groups in South America, needed to modernize an aging and complex SAP ERP landscape that was causing performance issues, high maintenance costs, and long processing times. To keep finance operations running while migrating 12 years of historical data, GPA worked with SAP and its Data Management and Landscape Transformation team, using SAP S/4HANA and a selective data transition approach.
SAP implemented the migration with the near-zero-downtime framework and selective data transition service, moving 17 company codes and 61 billion data entries while preserving business continuity. The project reduced the database footprint from 70 TB to 7 TB, cut technical downtime to less than 72 hours overall, and improved performance — including asset accounting depreciation processing being 40% faster.
