How Does Enhancing an IT Landscape with AI-Based Technology Enable More Efficiency and Speed in Finance

Mercedes-Benz Mobility AG, which operates in 35 countries and handles high volumes of vehicle finance, leasing, and insurance transactions, needed to reduce the manual effort involved in identifying and matching unallocated customer payments. Even though its existing accounting setup automated many invoice matches, teams were still spending hours each day resolving payments with missing or incorrect information. Mercedes-Benz Mobility turned to SAP and SAP Cash Application, Add-On for Contract Accounting, to improve efficiency in this complex finance process.

SAP implemented SAP Cash Application with machine learning and AI to automatically evaluate available data and match more unallocated payments to customer accounts. The solution increased the number of payments allocated automatically, sped up processing, and is expected to drive even more automation over time; on average, 5–10 minutes are saved per invoice processed automatically, and 58% of unallocated invoices forwarded for clarification were successfully processed before any AI learning cycle. Mercedes-Benz Mobility also plans to roll out SAP Cash Application across European countries.
