A SAP Case Study
CITIC Pacific Mining (CPM) faced the challenge of gaining real-time visibility into its large fleet of over 200 light vehicles and movable assets across its vast, remote mining sites. The company needed to optimize asset utilization, track location and condition, and automate updates on metrics like engine hours to improve operational and financial sustainability. To address this, they turned to vendor SAP for a solution leveraging SAP Leonardo Internet of Things capabilities.
SAP implemented a custom-developed solution using the SAP Vehicle Insights application, which integrated with CPM's tracking devices and core ERP software. This provided real-time monitoring, leading to a 200% return on investment and enabling higher fuel tax rebate claims. The solution, developed and launched in just eight weeks, resulted in greater vehicle utilization, optimal use of vehicle hire, and a pathway to reduced maintenance costs, underpinning CPM's long-term operational sustainability.
