AusNet Services, a major Australian energy provider, needed better control over the huge volume of asset maintenance notifications, inspections, repairs, and related procurement activity across its electricity and gas network. With hundreds of thousands of work-order notifications and more than 2.1 million pieces of equipment to manage, tracking costs per asset and keeping procurement efficient had become difficult. AusNet turned to SAP and SAP Ariba solutions to improve visibility and reduce procurement overhead.

SAP implemented SAP Ariba solutions including Ariba Network, SAP Ariba Invoice Management, and related sourcing and supplier tools to automate purchase orders, invoice capture, and service entry sheets. This gave AusNet more detailed cost allocation per asset, faster supplier payments, and better data flow; the company reported lower costs, improved vendor relationships, and reduced workload for accounts payable, with one-touch spend management planned through the SAP Ariba Spot Buy Catalog solution.
