Case Study: Roche Diagnostics achieves end-to-end cold chain visibility with SAP TEMPER

Helping safeguard patient safety with product quality using end-to-end Temperature Management(Project TEMPER)

Roche Diagnostics needed a way to manage end-to-end cold-chain temperature tracking across fragmented warehouse, manufacturing, and third-party logger systems, where manual, paper-based processes made batch-level temperature-excursion assessment slow and error-prone. Using SAP, Roche Diagnostics aimed to improve product quality, compliance, and visibility for temperature-sensitive products through its TEMPER initiative.

SAP implemented TEMPER with SAP S/4HANA, SAP Business Technology Platform, SAP HANA Cloud, and SAP Build Process Automation to centralize data, automate excursion assessment, and provide a single real-time view of stability-budget impact across the supply chain. The solution delivered 100% automated batch assessment, eliminated waiting times, improved compliance and data integrity, and supported impact assessment for 25,000+ batches with cold-chain verification, with rollout planned across more sites and an estimated 300,000 warehouse movements tracked annually.
