Building clean core applications side by side using the central ABAP test cockpit and SAP BTP ABAP environment

REWE Digital, the IT services organization for REWE Group’s German retail operations, needed to decouple ABAP application development from the SAP S/4HANA core while adopting modern, cloud-ready development methods. The company also wanted to reuse existing ABAP logic and keep its on-premise testing environment current across more than 15 development systems. To address these challenges, REWE Digital worked with SAP, using SAP BTP ABAP environment, SAP BTP, and the central ABAP test cockpit.

SAP helped REWE Digital build clean-core, side-by-side extensions and migrate global applications from on-premise systems to SAP BTP, with centralized access to internal SAP software data. The solution improved governance, supported best practices in clean-core development, and expanded ABAP Cloud skills across on-premise and cloud environments. As a result, REWE Digital built more than 25 side-by-side extensions and enabled 24x7 accessibility of applications across the global company.
