BMW Group Accelerating an ERP transformation and a move to the cloud with migration factory approach
BMW Group, the global automotive manufacturer behind premium cars and motorcycles, faced the challenge of rapidly transforming its highly customized on-premise ERP landscape while moving 36 systems to the cloud without disrupting daily operations. To future-proof its ERP and support innovation, BMW Group used RISE with SAP S/4HANA Cloud Private Edition, with SAP helping manage the complexity, security, performance, and availability requirements.
SAP implemented a migration factory approach through build, migration, and conversion subfactories, supported by SAP MaxAttention, SAP Services and Support, the SAP Enterprise Cloud Services group, and the SAP Solution Delivery Center. As a result, BMW Group migrated about 30% of systems and converted 20% in 12 months, and in 18 months had migrated around half of the target systems and converted one-third, putting it on track to finish by 2027 with improved security, higher availability, and stronger system performance.
